November 2023

Diwali, the festival of lights, is one of the most important Hindu festivals celebrated around the world. It is a time to celebrate the victory of good over evil and the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana. Diwali is also a time to worship Goddess Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity.

Lakshmi Pujan is the most important ritual performed on Diwali. It is a special ceremony performed to worship Goddess Lakshmi and pray for her blessings. Lakshmi Pujan is typically performed on the evening of Diwali, during the Pradosh Kaal, which is the twilight period between sunset and sunrise.

To prepare for Lakshmi Pujan, people clean their homes and decorate them with lights, flowers, and rangoli. They also set up a special altar for Goddess Lakshmi, which is typically decorated with a statue or image of the goddess, flowers, fruits, and sweets.

On the day of Lakshmi Pujan, people take a holy bath and wear new clothes. They then gather around the altar and perform the puja ceremony. The puja typically begins with an invocation of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles. After Ganesha Puja, people offer prayers and offerings to Goddess Lakshmi.

The offerings to Goddess Lakshmi typically include flowers, fruits, sweets, and coins. People also offer her a special dish called kheer, which is a sweet rice pudding. After the offerings are made, people recite mantras and prayers to Goddess Lakshmi and pray for her blessings.

At the end of the puja, people distribute the prasad, or sanctified food, to everyone present. They also exchange gifts and greetings with their loved ones.

Lakshmi Pujan 2023 will be performed on November 12th, 2023. The muhurat for Lakshmi Pujan 2023 is from 5:39 PM to 7:35 PM.

Falu and Gaurav’s track “Abundance in Millets,” featuring PM Narendra Modi, has surprisingly secured a nomination at the 2024 Grammy Awards in the Best Global Music Performance category. The song delves into the significance of millets in the country’s progress. Created by Falu & Gaurav Shah, the track competes with formidable nominees like Arooj Aftab, Vijay Iyer & Shahzad Ismaily’s “Shadow Forces,” Burna Boy’s “Alone,” Davido’s “Feel,” Silvana Estrada’s “Milagro Y Disastre,” Béla Fleck, Edgar Meyer & Zakir Hussain ft. Rakesh Chaurasia’s “Pashto,” and Ibrahim Maalouf ft. Cimafunk & Tank and the Bangas’ “Todo Colores.”

The creation of “Abundance in Millets” coincided with the celebration of the ‘International Year of the Millets.’ As mentioned on Falu’s website, the Indian government proposed the initiative, recognizing India’s status as one of the largest producers of this supergrain. The proposal garnered support from 72 countries and the United Nations General Assembly.

Describing the song’s intent and highlighting the importance of millets, the website states, “Millets are small-grained, warm-weather cereals cultivated mainly in India, and they played a significant role as staples for centuries. However, they gradually took a backseat and faced marginalization post the green revolution when the focus shifted to increased food grain production using high-yielding varieties of wheat and rice. ‘Abundance in Millets’ was created to raise awareness about this supergrain, positioning it as a potential key to alleviating world hunger.”

The world’s largest bank, Industrial & Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), was hit by a ransomware attack on Thursday, disrupting some systems at its ICBC Financial Services unit and forcing it to send settlement details for US Treasury trades via USB stick. The attack is the latest to snarl parts of the global financial system and emphasizes the need for central clearing in the $26 trillion US Treasury market.

The attack caused instantaneous disturbance as market-makers, brokerages and banks were forced to redirect trades, with many uncertain when access would resume. The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (Sifma) held calls with members about the stuff on Thursday.

ICBC FS offers fixed-income payment, Treasuries buy-back lending and some equities securities lending. The unit had about $23.5 billion of assets at the end of 2022. It is unsure to what extent the disruption affected the US Treasury market, but liquidity was apparently affected.

The attack is a reminder of the growing threat of cyberattacks to the global financial system. In August, ION Trading UK, a little-known company that serves derivatives traders worldwide, was hit by a ransomware attack that paralyzed markets and forced trading shops that clear hundreds of billions of dollars of transactions a day to process deals manually.

The ICBC attack also features the benefits of central clearing in the US Treasury market. Central clearing platforms are intermediaries between buyers and sellers that assume accountability for completing transactions and therefore prevent a default of one counterparty from causing extensive problems in the marketplace.

Stanford University finance professor Darrell Duffie said that the ICBC incident is “one example of why central clearing in the US Treasuries market is a very good idea.” He added that “had a similar problem occurred in a not-clearing firm, it’s not clear how the default risk that might result would propagate through the market.”

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is currently working to reduce risks in the financial system with a raft of proposals that include mandating central clearing of all US Treasuries. The SEC’s proposals are expected to be finalized in the coming months.

New Delhi: The “Women for Water, Water for Women” initiative, a groundbreaking project conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) in collaboration with the National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM) and the Odisha Urban Academy, concluded with remarkable success on its third day, November 9, 2023. This transformative campaign, conducted under the flagship program Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), was aimed at promoting women’s active involvement in water governance.

Spanning three days, the campaign witnessed the enthusiastic participation of more than 14,000 women from various regions of the country (excluding poll-bound States), who actively embraced “Jal Diwali.” Throughout the campaign, these empowered women embarked on visits to over 530 Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) across the nation, gaining invaluable firsthand insights into the intricate processes involved in delivering clean and safe drinking water to households.

State officials extended a warm welcome to the Self-Help Group (SHG) women, recognizing their pivotal role in the campaign’s resounding success. Field visit kits, containing essential items such as training manuals, water bottles, sippers, eco-friendly bags, and badges, were generously provided to all participants.

During the course of the campaign, women delved deeper into the realm of water infrastructure, receiving expert guidance on water quality testing protocols, and actively conducting these tests themselves. This newfound knowledge equips them to ensure the highest standards of water purity for their communities, reflecting a profound sense of ownership and responsibility toward water infrastructure.

The core focus areas of “Jal Diwali” encompassed acquainting and educating women about the extensive impact of the AMRUT scheme, providing comprehensive exposure to Water Treatment Plants, and fostering inclusivity through souvenirs and articles crafted by Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Additionally, participants pledged their commitment to conserving and responsibly utilizing water resources, a crucial step toward sustainable water management.

The combined endeavors of SHGs and State officials hailing from 29 States/Union Territories represent a significant leap toward inclusivity and women’s empowerment in the vital realm of water infrastructure.

Tata Power shares fell on Thursday after the company reported a 9 percent year-on-year (YoY) rise in net profit on a similar growth in sales for the September quarter. Analysts were expecting a 13-40 percent rise in profit for the utility company on a 6-17 percent jump in sales.

Despite the disappointing results, some analysts remain cautiously optimistic about Tata Power’s prospects. Kotak Institutional Equities revised its earnings estimates for the company but maintained its SELL rating with a revised fair value of Rs 220 per share. The brokerage noted that Tata Power’s focus on business restructuring and its high-growth renewable energy (RE) business could lead to sustained earnings growth in the long term.

Sharekhan also maintained its Buy rating on Tata Power with a revised price target of Rs 285. The brokerage cited the company’s improving power demand, stable coal prices, and focus on increasing its RE portfolio as reasons for its optimism.

Overall, analysts are mixed on Tata Power’s outlook. The company’s near-term earnings are likely to be volatile due to the ongoing volatility in coal prices. However, the company’s long-term prospects are more positive, thanks to its focus on business restructuring and its growing RE business.

Tata Power’s earnings going forward depend on three factors: stability in the prices of imported coal and their contribution to earnings, growth from the renewable energy segment, and the sustainability of Section 11 orders for the Mundra plant, which have been extended until June 2024. The company’s focus on business restructuring, high-growth renewable energy business, and entry into power transmission will be crucial for sustained earnings growth. The management aims for a fourfold increase in Profit after Tax (PAT) by FY2027 compared to FY2022, which will lead to improved earnings quality. Additionally, Tata Power aims to increase its renewable energy portfolio and secure cost-reflective long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for the Mundra plant, utilizing stable cash flows from its regulated generation and distribution businesses.

Investors should carefully consider these factors before making an investment decision in Tata Power.

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has fruitfully captured the first high-energy X-ray glimpse of solar flares using the High Energy L1 Orbiting X-ray Spectrometer (HEL1OS) instrument on board the Aditya-L1 spacecraft.

HEL1OS is a devoted Indian space mission for the study of the Sun from an orbit around the L1 Lagrange point, which is about 1.5 million kilometers from Earth. The instrument was developed by the Space Astronomy Group of the U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC) in Bengaluru, India.

The first observation period for HEL1OS began on October 29, 2023. During this time, the instrument was able to record the spontaneous phase of solar flares. Solar flares are sudden brightening’s of the Sun’s atmosphere that produce greater emission across the entire electromagnetic spectrum.

HEL1OS is distinctively designed to study the impulsive hard X-ray emission from solar flares. This emission is very difficult to portray and understand because it is highly time variable and has multiple spectral components. HEL1OS overcomes these difficulties by having a set of detectors that are specifically tuned to different energy ranges and provide very high spectral and time resolution measurements.

“Commissioned on October 27, 2023, HEL1OS is currently undergoing fine-tuning of thresholds and calibration operations. The instrument is set to monitor the Sun’s high-energy X-ray activity with fast timing and high-resolution spectra,” ISRO stated in a release.

The HEL1OS data will enable researchers to study explosive energy release and electron acceleration during the impulsive phases of solar flares. This information will help us to better understand the Sun’s corona, which is the outermost layer of the Sun’s atmosphere.

Aditya-L1 spacecraft

The Aditya-L1 spacecraft is designed to provide remote observations of the solar corona and in-situ observations of the solar wind at L1. The spacecraft carries seven payloads to observe the photosphere, chromosphere, and the outermost layers of the Sun, the corona, in different wavebands.

Aditya-L1 is a fully indigenous effort with the participation of national institutions.

Significance of the mission

The Aditya-L1 mission is a significant step forward for India’s space program. It is the first dedicated Indian space mission for the study of the Sun and will provide valuable data that will help us to better understand our nearest star.

The mission is also important for the development of India’s space technology. The Aditya-L1 spacecraft is a sophisticated spacecraft that incorporates a number of new technologies. The successful development and launch of the spacecraft is a testament to the capabilities of the Indian space industry.

Conclusion

The successful capture of the first high-energy X-ray glimpse of solar flares by HEL1OS is a significant achievement for the Aditya-L1 mission. The data from HEL1OS will help us to better understand the Sun and its corona. The Aditya-L1 mission is a valuable property for India’s space program and will contribute to the advancement of our knowledge of the Sun.
