On the 82nd anniversary of the sacrifice made by Dr. Dwarka Nath Kotnis, a member of the Indian Medical Mission to China, a three-day free acupuncture treatment camp was organized at Janj Ghar Shasti Nagar near GT Bahdur Hospital in Ludhiana. During the camp, 86 patients received acupuncture treatment.

Dr. Inderjit Singh, the director of Dr. Kotnis Memorial Hospital, commemorated the 82nd anniversary by reflecting on the historical context. In 1937-38, amidst the severe Japanese aggression and the resistance of the Chinese people, Jawaharlal Nehru, a leader of the Indian National Congress, decided to send medical aid to China. Dr. Kotnis, along with a team of five members, including Dr. Aral, Dr. Cholkar, Dr. B.K. Basu, and Dr. Bebesh from Kolkata, was sent to China.

The medical mission worked diligently in various parts of China. Unfortunately, Dr. Mukherjee, Dr. Aral, and Dr. Cholkar had to return due to health issues. However, Dr. Basu and Dr. Kotnis stayed in China and joined the liberation movement of the Chinese people. Dr. Kotnis passed away in China on December 9, 1942, at the age of 32. Dr. Basu, after returning to India in July 1943, actively engaged in the Indian freedom movement.

In 1958, Dr. Basu went to China and learned acupuncture therapy. In 1959, he introduced acupuncture therapy in India, specifically in Kolkata. Despite the strained relations between India and China after the 1962 border conflict, Dr. Basu was invited to China in 1972, where he learned acupuncture anesthesia. In 1973, he started propagating the ideals of the medical mission through the service of people.

Dr. Kotnis Hospital has been serving the community for the past 48 years. In China, a museum was set up in Schchiachung to commemorate Dr. Kotnis, teaching the youth about the support India provided during their liberation movement.

Dr. Inderjit Singh, reflecting on Dr. Kotnis’s life, emphasized the enduring friendship between the two countries. He highlighted the need to remember the significant contribution of Indian people in aiding China during challenging times. As a tribute, free treatment camps were organized on this day to pay homage to Dr. Kotnis.

Prof. Ganesh Channa (Hometown from Dr. Kotnis Memorial Solapur) visited Dr. Kotnis hospital and meet with Dr. Inderjit Singh on 13th Dec 2023 at Ludhiana.

New Delhi, December 14, 2023: In a decisive move, the Lok Sabha passed a resolution on Thursday to suspend five Congress Members of Parliament (MPs) for the remainder of the winter session. The Speaker named T N Prathapan, Hibi Eden, Jothimani, Ramya Haridas, and Dean Kuriakose for their role in disrupting House proceedings.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi presented the resolution during a session marked by chaos. The MPs were accused of showing “utter disregard to the House and the authority of the Chair.” The resolution moved amid a din, was swiftly approved.

Chairing the proceedings, B Mahtab took charge as Opposition members demanded a government statement on the recent Lok Sabha security breach. The Speaker, Om Birla, emphasized that the Lok Sabha Secretariat bears responsibility for the security of the Parliament complex.

Earlier in the week, a security breach occurred when two individuals jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber, shouting slogans and releasing colored smoke. The intruders had obtained visitor passes from a BJP MP.

During Thursday’s session, the Speaker named three Congress members and warned against further disturbances before adjourning proceedings. The suspension resolution followed as a response to the MPs’ alleged misconduct.

The ongoing Winter Session faced disruptions as Opposition members demanded clarity on the security breach. Despite the chaos, a brief Question Hour took place, with the Speaker addressing the disruptive behavior before adjourning until 2 pm.

In response to the security breach, eight security personnel were suspended, hailing from various agencies on deputation for Parliament security. The detained intruders have been arrested, sparking concerns about the efficacy of the security measures in place.

The suspension of the five Congress MPs underscores the importance of maintaining decorum in parliamentary proceedings, especially in the wake of security concerns that have raised questions about the safety of the Parliament complex.

As the Winter Session continues, attention remains focused on addressing security lapses and ensuring the smooth functioning of parliamentary activities.

In the ever-evolving landscape of American politics, the 2024 Republican presidential nominating contest is already making headlines. According to a recent Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll, former US President Donald Trump is not just leading the pack; he’s doing so convincingly.

Trump’s Resilient Popularity

Despite facing a multitude of legal challenges, including his involvement in the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot and other controversies, Trump remains the top choice for a staggering 61% of self-identified Republicans. This robust support signifies a broad base that sees Trump as the go-to candidate to challenge incumbent President Joe Biden.

The Rivals and Their Standing

In the shadow of Trump’s dominance, other contenders lag significantly behind. South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, both respected figures in the party, are currently backed by 11% of Republicans each. Haley’s modest surge from 4% in September indicates some momentum, yet it’s clear she, along with others, is facing an uphill battle against the Trump juggernaut.

Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy is capturing attention with 5% support, showcasing a diverse field but still trailing far behind Trump. Meanwhile, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and the undecided camp round out the list at 2% and 8%, respectively.

Iowa’s Crucial Role

As the political spotlight intensifies, all eyes turn to Iowa, set to cast the first ballots on January 15, 2024. Trump’s stronghold in Iowa is notable, backed by evangelicals and first-time likely caucus-goers. The state’s unique caucus system, where voters gather to debate and rank candidates, offers a critical early indicator of support.

Insights into the Numbers

While the poll sheds light on the current preferences, it’s essential to note the fluidity of political landscapes. Trump’s enduring popularity speaks to a segment of the Republican base still rallying behind the former president. However, the coming months leading up to the 2024 elections may introduce shifts and surprises.

As the Republican contenders strive to differentiate themselves and connect with voters, the race unfolds as a dynamic narrative. Trump’s lead is undeniable, but political fortunes are fickle, and the true test lies ahead as candidates navigate the diverse terrain of state caucuses and primaries.

Conclusion: A Preview of the Political Arena

The 2024 Republican race, with Trump at the forefront, is a spectacle worth watching. The numbers tell a story of loyalty, shifting dynamics, and the inherent unpredictability of politics. As the nation awaits the unfolding drama, one thing is certain – the journey to the Republican nomination is poised to be a captivating ride.
