The main event took place at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the celebrations. The event was attended by J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Minister Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav, and other dignitaries. Globally, Indian Embassies and Missions are also participating, reflecting the widespread influence of yoga.

During the event, Prime Minister Modi addressed the gathering and participated in the Common Yoga Protocol session, emphasizing yoga’s importance for physical, mental, and spiritual growth. He highlighted the increasing global adoption of yoga and its recognized benefits. Modi noted that almost every world leader has discussed yoga with him, and shared instances of its growing acceptance, such as the inauguration of a Yoga Center in Turkmenistan in 2015, the inclusion of yoga therapy in Turkmenistan’s State Medical Universities, yoga’s integration into Saudi Arabia’s education system, and the activities of the Mongolian Yoga Foundation. He also mentioned that 1.5 crore Germans have taken up yoga, indicating its growing popularity in Europe, and highlighted ongoing research and numerous published papers on yoga.

The Prime Minister also discussed the expansion of yoga over the past decade, noting the emergence of a new yoga economy. This includes the rise of yoga tourism, retreats, resorts, dedicated yoga facilities at airports and hotels, and the demand for yoga apparel, equipment, and personal trainers, all of which are creating new job opportunities for the youth.

This year’s International Yoga Day theme, ‘Yoga for Self and Society,’ underscores yoga’s role as a powerful agent for global good, helping people live in the present without the burdens of the past.

To broaden the inclusivity of yoga benefits, Prime Minister Modi has written letters to all Gram Pradhans, encouraging grassroots participation and promoting yoga in rural areas.

Ottawa, Canada: In a significant move, the Canadian government has officially designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist entity. This decision, announced today, reflects Canada’s stance against Iran’s military and paramilitary force, which has been implicated in numerous acts of terrorism and human rights abuses.

The IRGC, established in 1979 following the Iranian Revolution, has been accused of supporting and orchestrating terrorist activities across the Middle East and beyond. By designating the IRGC as a terrorist entity, Canada joins several other countries that have taken similar measures, including the United States.

The Canadian government cited the IRGC’s involvement in destabilizing activities and its support for terrorist groups as primary reasons for the designation. “This decision underscores our commitment to combatting terrorism and holding accountable those who perpetrate and support acts of violence and terror,” said Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino.

The designation will have far-reaching implications, including the freezing of IRGC assets in Canada and banning any transactions with the group. It also means that any individual associated with the IRGC will be prohibited from entering Canada.

Human rights organizations and advocacy groups have welcomed the move, viewing it as a step towards addressing Iran’s aggressive actions in the region. “This is a strong message from Canada that it will not tolerate terrorism or human rights violations,” said Hadi Ghaemi, executive director of the Center for Human Rights in Iran.

This decision is part of a broader Canadian strategy to increase pressure on Iran for its nuclear ambitions, human rights record, and regional interventions. It also comes amid growing tensions between Iran and Western nations over various geopolitical issues.

The IRGC’s designation as a terrorist entity is expected to strain Canada-Iran relations further, but Canadian officials remain firm on their stance, emphasizing the need to safeguard national and global security.

Directed by Kabir Khan, the film features an ensemble cast including Vijay Raaz, Bhuvan Arora, Rajpal Yadav, and Shreyas Talpade in key roles.

Released on June 14, 2024, Chandu Champion opened to a promising start with a collection of 5.40 crores on its first day. The film’s earnings saw a significant rise on the second day, amassing 7.70 crores, bringing the total to 13.10 crores by the end of day two.

Early trends for the third day indicate another impressive leap for the film, with estimates ranging between 10 to 10.80 crores. With these figures, Chandu Champion has crossed the 10-crore mark, taking its cumulative total to an estimated range of 23.10 to 23.90 crores over the weekend.

The film’s team is optimistic about maintaining this momentum, especially with Bakri Eid around the corner, which is expected to further boost box office numbers. However, the film will soon face competition from the highly anticipated Kalki 2898 AD, set to release in ten days.

Adding to the excitement, a special screening of Chandu Champion was organized in Mumbai on Thursday. Italy: good evening everyone, and thank you very much for accepting the invitation to participate in the G7 Outreach session here in Puglia under the Italian Presidency.

We didn’t choose this place by chance, we chose it because Puglia is a southern region of Italy and because it is a land that has historically represented a bridge between West and East, a place of dialogue in the ‘middle sea’ that, through northern Africa and the Middle East, connects the two great maritime spaces of the globe: the Atlantic on one side and the Indo-Pacific on the other.

This place and this wide outreach that we wanted to invite are a clear message from the G7 under the Italian Presidency. We will never accept the narrative that wants the ‘West against the rest’. We know we can only deal with the global challenges we are facing if we are able to cooperate with respect and with a peer-to-peer approach. Among the many global challenges that we are called on to face in this period, we decided to dedicate the Outreach session to those that we consider very pressing: Artificial Intelligence first of all, with the opportunities it opens up and the risks it hides; the Mediterranean, an area of crisis and a place of dialogue; the African continent, with which we work to build a completely new cooperation as equals; and, obviously, the need to deal without ideological approaches with climate change, which impacts above all on the nations of the Global South.

We will have two keynote speakers to start our work. His Holiness Pope Francis, who gave us the great honour to participate in our working session and will share with us his point of view on Artificial Intelligence. It is the first time that a Pontiff participates in a meeting of the Group of Seven, and this inevitably makes today’s appointment a historic moment. So, I will never thank you enough for being here, Your Holiness.

Then we will have His Excellency Mohamed Ould El Ghazouani, President of Mauritania and rotating Chair of the African Union, who will bring the point of view of African nations on the expectations of the continent.

I’ll stop here. Thank you again, Your Holiness. The floor is yours.

Kyiv, Ukraine — Russian forces launched a barrage of missiles and drones targeting the Kyiv region and five other areas in Ukraine during a nighttime attack on Wednesday. This assault comes as international diplomatic activities ramp up to address the ongoing conflict that has entered its third year.

Ukraine’s air force reported shooting down 29 out of 30 air targets, including four cruise missiles, one Kinzhal ballistic missile, and 24 Shahed drones. Despite the successful interception, several people sustained injuries. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy lauded the air force’s efforts, emphasizing that such defensive successes could become routine if Ukraine received additional air defense systems. He reiterated his call for Western allies to provide more support, particularly air defense technology. In response, the United States has committed to sending another Patriot missile system, according to two U.S. officials.

The intensifying attacks coincide with a series of significant international meetings aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s defense and exploring pathways to peace. Leaders from the Group of Seven (G7) rich democracies, including U.S. President Joe Biden, are set to convene in Italy on Thursday for their annual summit. A key agenda item will be strategizing on how to channel more funds to Ukraine by leveraging frozen Russian assets.

On the same day, defense chiefs from the U.S., Europe, and other nations will gather in Brussels for their monthly discussion on Ukraine’s security needs. U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will host this meeting, underscoring the urgency of addressing Ukraine’s military requirements as the conflict drags on.

Adding to the flurry of diplomatic activity, Switzerland will host a peace summit next weekend, drawing representatives from nearly 90 countries and organizations, including numerous European nations. Notably, Russia will not participate in this summit, highlighting the ongoing international isolation of Moscow.

Ukraine continues to face severe challenges on the battlefield. Its forces, outgunned and outnumbered, are striving to hold back the larger Russian army. Recent months have seen Ukrainian troops struggling with shortages of personnel, ammunition, and air defenses as Russian forces aim to disrupt national power supplies and break through front lines in the eastern regions. Military analysts suggest that Ukraine must endure the summer onslaught, train more soldiers, fortify defenses, and hope for an acceleration in Western military aid to potentially mount its own offensive in 2025.

Meanwhile, Russia’s efforts have been marked by incremental and costly gains. In the northeastern Kharkiv region, Russian units have been bogged down in the town of Vovchansk, according to Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi. The Kremlin’s forces have also been concentrating their efforts on the partly occupied Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine, with an eye on strategic hubs like the hilltop city of Chasiv Yar.

The human toll of Europe’s largest conflict since World War II is staggering, with tens of thousands of casualties on both sides, including over 11,000 Ukrainian civilian deaths reported by the United Nations. As Ukraine looks to its Western allies for continued support, Russian President Vladimir Putin has sought assistance from nations like Iran and North Korea. Reports suggest that Putin may soon make a third visit to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, further indicating the lengths to which Russia is going to secure resources for its war effort.

As the war grinds on, the international community remains divided, with both sides reaching out to friendly nations for military and economic support. The upcoming diplomatic engagements will be crucial in shaping the future course of the conflict and the prospects for a resolution.

Apple today previewed iOS 18, a groundbreaking update set to transform the iPhone experience with enhanced customization, a redesigned Photos app, powerful new connectivity options, and the introduction of Apple Intelligence, a sophisticated personal intelligence system. This major release marks a significant leap forward in making the iPhone more personal, capable, and intelligent than ever before.

A New Era of Customization

With iOS 18, Apple introduces unprecedented levels of customization across the Home Screen, Lock Screen, and Control Center. Users can now arrange apps and widgets freely in any open space on the Home Screen, even placing them above the dock for quicker access. This flexibility extends to the Lock Screen, where users can switch or remove controls at the bottom, choosing from a gallery of options for a tailored experience. The redesigned Control Center offers new customization and flexibility, allowing users to add controls from third-party apps and organize them into personalized groups for media playback, home controls, and connectivity.

Photos App Gets a Major Overhaul

The Photos app receives its biggest redesign to date, aimed at helping users easily find and relive their cherished moments. A unified, single view now displays photos in a familiar grid format, enhanced with new collections that organize content by themes. Users can pin favorite collections for quick access, while a new carousel view showcases daily highlights featuring people, pets, places, and more. Autoplaying content within the app brings photo libraries to life, and customizable features allow users to tailor the experience to their unique needs.

Staying Connected in Innovative Ways

iOS 18 brings significant enhancements to the Messages app, including dynamic text effects and new formatting options such as bold, underline, italics, and strikethrough. Users can now express themselves more vividly with animated appearances for letters, words, phrases, or emojis. The app also introduces Messages via satellite, enabling communication when cellular or Wi-Fi connections are unavailable. This feature leverages existing iPhone satellite technology to send and receive texts, emojis, and Tapbacks over iMessage and SMS.

For the first time, the Messages app supports RCS (Rich Communication Services), providing a richer media experience and more reliable group messaging compared to traditional SMS and MMS. This update ensures seamless communication across devices, enhancing user connectivity.

Mail and Safari Enhancements

Later this year, Mail will introduce on-device categorization to streamline inbox management, sorting emails into categories like Primary, Transactions, Updates, and Promotions. A new digest view compiles relevant emails from a single business, allowing users to quickly scan important information.

Safari, the world’s fastest browser, now offers a redesigned Reader experience and Highlights feature that surfaces key information about webpages. Machine learning technology enables users to review summaries, locate key details, and enjoy articles without distraction.

Introducing the Passwords App

Building on the foundation of Keychain, the new Passwords app consolidates passwords, passkeys, Wi-Fi passwords, and verification codes into one convenient place. The app also alerts users about common password weaknesses and potential data breaches, enhancing security.

Privacy and Security Innovations

iOS 18 emphasizes user privacy with new features like locked and hidden apps, ensuring that sensitive information remains private. Users can lock apps with Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode, and hide them from search and notifications. Additionally, iOS 18 allows users to selectively share contacts with apps and seamlessly connect third-party accessories without exposing their entire network.

Apple Intelligence: A Leap Forward

Apple Intelligence, deeply integrated into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, leverages the power of generative models combined with personal context to deliver highly relevant and useful experiences. This new system enhances writing with systemwide tools for rewriting, proofreading, and summarizing text across various apps. Image Playground allows users to create playful images, while the new Clean Up tool in Photos removes distracting background objects without altering the subject.

Siri becomes more natural and contextually relevant, with the ability to switch between text and voice communication. Private Cloud Compute ensures privacy in AI processing, with data used solely to fulfill user requests and not stored or accessed by Apple.

Additional Features and Enhancements

  • Apple Maps: Users can explore national park hikes, create custom walking routes, and access offline maps. A new Places Library allows saving favorite hikes and locations with personal notes.
  • Game Mode: Enhances gaming with consistent frame rates and responsive wireless accessories.
  • Apple Pay: Introduces new ways to pay, including redeeming rewards and accessing installments from eligible cards. Tap to Cash allows sending and receiving Apple Cash by holding two iPhones together.
  • SharePlay: Enhances the listening experience with shared control of music from HomePod, Apple TV, or Bluetooth-enabled speakers.
  • AirPods Updates: Introduces head gestures for Siri interactions, voice isolation for clearer calls, and the best wireless audio latency for mobile gaming.
  • Notes and Journal: Adds Math Notes for instant equation solving, collapsible sections, and new journaling features with mindful minutes tracking.
  • Calendar and Health: Shows events and tasks together, redesigned Medical ID, and pregnancy health recommendations.
  • Emergency SOS Live Video: Allows sharing live video or media during emergency calls for faster assistance.
  • Home App: Introduces guest access and hands-free unlock with Ultra Wideband technology.
  • Accessibility: Adds Eye Tracking for navigation, Music Haptics for experiencing music through vibrations, and Vocal Shortcuts for performing tasks with custom sounds.

Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, expressed excitement about the release, stating, “iOS 18 is a huge release with incredible features, including new levels of customization and capability, a redesigned Photos app, and powerful ways to stay connected with Messages. This release also marks the beginning of a tremendously exciting new era of personal intelligence with Apple Intelligence delivering intuitive, powerful, and instantly useful experiences that will transform the iPhone experience, all with privacy at the core. We can’t wait for users to experience it.”
