Tree plantation, cleanliness drive at IMERT College, Karvenagar on behalf of Central Bureau of Communications and Pune Municipal Corporation

Pune : On behalf of the Central Bureau of Communications under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Pune Municipal Corporation and IMERT College run by Marathwada Mitra Mandal, a tree plantation and cleanliness drive was carried out today at IMERT Mahavidlaya in Karve Nagar on the occasion of World Environment Day. The program was also supported by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kaveri International School and Worship Earth Foundation.

On this occasion, Pune Municipal Corporation Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Shinde, Assistant Commissioner Vijay Naikal, Assistant Health Officer Dr. Ketaki Ghatge, Senior Police Inspector Manoj Shedge, Youth Officer of Nehru Youth Center Ashish Shete, Director of IMERT College Dr. Shubhangi Ramaswamy, Amrapali Chavan, Co-Founder of Worship Earth Foundation, Gautami Pandey, Coordinator of Kaveri International School, Harshal Akude, Publicity Officer of Central Communications Bureau, etc. were present.

The program started by planting trees in the college premises by dignitaries. After this, the present dignitaries of the college, teachers, non-teaching staff, students and citizens of the area conducted a cleanliness campaign in the entire area. In the next session, the students of Kaveri International School presented a song on environmental awareness.

While guiding the audience on this occasion, Pune Municipal Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Shinde said that protecting the environment is not the responsibility of any one person but everyone has to contribute to it. We can help maintain the balance of the environment by doing small things like avoiding the use of plastic, using water sparingly, maintaining cleanliness, separating wet and dry waste.

IMERT College Principal Shubhangi Ramaswamy said that since 1973, the United Nations has taken the initiative to celebrate Environment Day on June 5. But if we think about it, every person can celebrate every day of the year for the environment. For that we can resolve to do any one environment friendly action every day.

At the end of the event, all the attendees took a pledge to protect the environment and maintain cleanliness. The program was coordinated by Prof. Aparna Shastri did, while thanks to Publicity Assistant P. Fanikumar.

Pune: On the occasion of World Environment Day 2024, Queens Merry Technical Institute (QMTI), Pune, in collaboration with the World Environment Council, organized a grand plantation drive aimed at enhancing the campus’s greenery and promoting environmental sustainability. The event saw the enthusiastic participation of faculty, students, and esteemed guests, marking a significant step towards a greener future.

A Green Initiative: Over 60 Varieties of Trees Planted
In a spirited effort to contribute to the global environmental cause, over 60 varieties of trees were planted across the QMTI campus. The selection included native species such as Peepal, Banyan, and Neem, as well as the visually striking Purple tree. Each tree was carefully chosen for its ecological benefits, including air purification, shade provision, and contribution to biodiversity.

The tree plantation drive was graced by the presence of QMTI CEO, Mr. Ballewar, and Shri. Ashok who inaugurated the event with a motivational speech emphasizing the importance of individual and collective actions in combating climate change. Other notable attendees included:

Human Rights Watch Report Reveals Widespread Forced Relocation of Tibetans Violating International Law

Chinese authorities have forcibly relocated over 140,000 Tibetans from 500 villages in the Tibet Autonomous Region since 2016, according to a damning report by Human Rights Watch (HRW). The report, released on Tuesday, details how the Chinese government has applied “extreme forms of pressure” to displace entire communities, amounting to significant violations of international law.

Massive Scale of Relocation

HRW’s 70-page report, titled “Educate the Masses to Change Their Minds: China’s Coercive Relocation of Rural Tibetans,” highlights the scale and speed of these relocations. Citing official statistics and over 1,000 state-run media reports, HRW estimates that by 2025, more than 930,000 rural Tibetans will have been relocated since the year 2000. Remarkably, over 76% of these relocations have occurred in the past eight years alone.

Coercion and Misleading Promises

Chinese officials claim that these relocations are intended to improve employment opportunities, increase incomes, and protect the ecological environment. However, HRW contends that these justifications are misleading. The report reveals that relocated individuals are required by law to demolish their former homes, effectively preventing any return to their original villages. This has been a key strategy in both whole-village relocations and individual-household relocations.

Among the 709,000 Tibetans relocated since 2016, 140,000 were part of whole-village relocations, while 567,000 were moved individually. Entire villages have been moved hundreds of kilometers away, and the pace of these relocations has dramatically accelerated.

Rights groups and the Central Tibetan Administration, the government-in-exile based in Dharamsala, India, have long accused Chinese authorities of a range of repressive measures. These include the forcible separation of children from their parents for admission into state-run boarding schools, extensive surveillance, and transnational harassment of Tibetan activists.

HRW asserts that the whole-village relocation programs amount to forced evictions, which are prohibited under international law. The report argues that the demolitions required by Chinese law further violate international norms, as they prevent relocated individuals from returning to their former homes.

HRW has called on the Chinese government to halt all relocations in Tibet until an independent review can assess their compliance with both Chinese and international law. New Delhi : China has finally sent his envoy Xu Feihong to India after a gap of 18 months amid the Ladakh border stand-off between the two countries since May 2020.

Feihong has reportedly arrived in New Delhi on Friday with his wife Tan Yuxiu. Welcome by all delegates.

According to The Indian Express report, Xu said, “China is ready to work with India to accommodate each other’s concerns and find a mutually acceptable solution to specific issues through dialogue at an early date.”

Earlier, 60 year-old Xu was appointed as the 17th Chinese Ambassador to India by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

He added: “I noted Prime Minister Modi’s comments on the importance of China-India ties, and the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson responded to that right afterwards.”

“The Chinese side always believes that China-India ties should not be defined by any single issue or area; the boundary question is not the entirety of the relationship. Speaking at the Indian Council of World Affairs in September 2014, President Xi Jinping said that we must not focus our attention only on differences and forget about our friendship and cooperation,” Xu said as per the report.

Known as Akha Teej, Akshaya Tritiya holds special importance as it falls on an ‘abooja muhurat’, a time when any auspicious activity can be conducted without consulting the almanac. According to the Hindu calendar, Akshaya Tritiya is observed on the third day of the bright half of the Vaisakha month.

The term ‘Akshaya’ translates to ‘that which never diminishes’, symbolizing everlasting prosperity and success. On this day, purchasing gold, silver, and other valuables is considered highly auspicious as it is believed to bring continuous growth and prosperity. Devotees also perform worship and seek blessings from Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu for happiness, wealth, and abundance in life.

This year, Akshaya Tritiya holds extraordinary significance as it coincides with the rare and auspicious alignment of planetary yogas such as Gajakesari Yoga, as well as Dhana, Shukra-Aditya, Ravi, Shash, and Sukarma yogas, occurring together after a span of 100 years.

According to ancient scriptures, Akshaya Tritiya marks the beginning of the Treta and Satyuga eras, making it a pivotal moment in Hindu mythology. It is believed that Lord Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, was born on this day. Additionally, sage Ved Vyasa commenced the writing of the epic Mahabharata in collaboration with Lord Ganesha on Akshaya Tritiya.

Observing Akshaya Tritiya, devotees rise early, take a holy bath, and offer prayers to the Sun God. The most auspicious time for purchasing and conducting rituals is from 5:33 AM to 12:18 PM today. Devotees adorn yellow attire, offer prayers, and perform rituals with devotion to seek the blessings of the divine.

While Akshaya Tritiya is traditionally celebrated with fervor and devotion, this year’s unique celestial alignments add to its significance, making it an opportune time for spiritual growth and prosperity.
