Effective August 1, all goods exported from India to the U.S. will face a steep 25% tariff. Stock Markets in Shock: Sensex and Nifty Take a Nosedive

The impact was immediate and brutal. At the opening bell, the BSE Sensex crashed 786.36 points to 80,695.50, while the NSE Nifty plummeted 212.8 points to 24,642.25. Major firms including Reliance Industries, Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, and State Bank of India were among the top losers.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) also seemed to echo this sentiment, offloading equities worth ₹850.04 crore the day before the announcement.

The tremors were not limited to India. Asian markets like South Korea’s Kospi, Shanghai’s SSE Composite, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng also opened lower. Only Japan’s Nikkei 225 held positive ground. In the U.S., markets closed largely in the red, reflecting broader uncertainty.

Meanwhile, oil prices—always sensitive to geopolitical maneuvers—saw a minor dip. Brent crude slipped 0.19% to $73.10 per barrel.

While the AI tool undoubtedly boosts productivity, its frequent use appears to undermine memory, brain connectivity, and mental effort.

Reduced Brain Activity in Everyday Users

The study supervised a group of participants who used ChatGPT on a regular basis, they found that there was a 47% decline in brain connectivity scores—from 79 down to 42 points. Feasibly most alarming was that 83.3% of users couldn’t recall even a single sentence that they had read or generated just few minutes earlier. Even after stopping using AI , participants showed very minimal signs of cognitive recovery or re-engagement.

Efficiency vs. Effort

As we look at a bigger picture, ChatGPT made users 60% faster in completing tasks, especially essays and written reports. But these outputs were stated as robotic, that they lack depth, emotion, and human insight. The users utilized 32% less mental effort on average, signaling a troubling trend. Speed was gained but at what cost? – real thinking.

Building A foundational understanding

Interestingly, the top-performing group in the study started without any AI assistance, building a foundation of understanding before introducing ChatGPT into their workflow. These participants retained better memory, exhibited stronger brain activity, and produced the most well-rounded content. This approach suggests that AI should be a scaffold, not a crutch.

Dulling the Blade of the Mind

MIT’s findings point toward a growing concern: overdependence on AI may be eroding our cognitive resilience. The study emphasizes that using ChatGPT as a shortcut, especially in younger users, might hamper long-term intellectual development. Early exposure without structured guidance could potentially flatten the curve of curiosity and critical reasoning.

Redefining the Role of AI in Learning

Rather than sounding a death knell for AI tools, the MIT study encourages thoughtful integration. AI should be used as an assistant to direct your thinking not replacing it emerges as the significant takeaway. We must now ask that – How do we ensure AI is an enhancement tool, and  not a substitute for the human mind?

On 26 July 2025, the World Environment Council, New Delhi, spearheaded a profound environmental and social initiative in Kudal, Tal. Akkalkot, Dist. Solapur. The occasion marked the 65th birth anniversary of Late Pushpa Prakash Channa and was observed with meaningful community engagement at Zila Parishad Primary School, Kudal.

A Dual Mission: Green Drive and Student Welfare

Under the 6th Global Tree Plantation Campaign, over 25 native trees were planted within the school premises. The event was not merely a symbolic gesture but aimed at creating a long-term environmental impact while instilling awareness among young minds about ecological responsibility.

Simultaneously, the Council extended heartfelt support to the student community. In memory of their mother, Professor Ganesh Prakash Channa (Founder President, World Environment Council) and Mrs. Sridevi Channa distributed essential clothes to needy students from Classes 1 to 8 and organized a meal for all students. Their words emphasized the spirit of compassion and responsibility—“Happiness of children is the fulfillment of true faith.”

Community Participation and School Leadership

This initiative was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the school Principal Mr. Shivanand Koli, local leaders including Sarpanch Executive Smt. Gujjwa Jamadar, Deputy Sarpanch Executive Mr. Pawan Pujari, Former Sarpanch Mr. Chandrakant Yadavad, and several other committed individuals such as Mr. Srikant Gote, Mr. Pramod Mahendrakar, Mr. Rishi Patil, and many more.
