New Delhi: Kartik Aaryan’s latest venture, Chandu Champion, a sports biography inspired by the life of India’s first Paralympic gold medalist, Murlikant Petkar, is steadily gaining momentum at the Indian box office. Directed by Kabir Khan, the film features an ensemble cast including Vijay Raaz, Bhuvan Arora, Rajpal Yadav, and Shreyas Talpade in key roles.

Released on June 14, 2024, Chandu Champion opened to a promising start with a collection of 5.40 crores on its first day. The film’s earnings saw a significant rise on the second day, amassing 7.70 crores, bringing the total to 13.10 crores by the end of day two.

Early trends for the third day indicate another impressive leap for the film, with estimates ranging between 10 to 10.80 crores. This marks a growth of approximately 29.87-40.25% compared to its Saturday earnings. With these figures, Chandu Champion has crossed the 10-crore mark, taking its cumulative total to an estimated range of 23.10 to 23.90 crores over the weekend.

The film’s team is optimistic about maintaining this momentum, especially with Bakri Eid around the corner, which is expected to further boost box office numbers. However, the film will soon face competition from the highly anticipated Kalki 2898 AD, set to release in ten days.

Adding to the excitement, a special screening of Chandu Champion was organized in Mumbai on Thursday. The event turned out to be a star-studded affair with celebrities such as Vidya Balan, Tiger Shroff, Ananya Panday, Shanaya Kapoor, and Suniel Shetty gracing the occasion. Murlikant Petkar, the inspiration behind the film, also attended the screening, adding a touch of authenticity and honor to the evening.

Kartik Aaryan, known for his successful track record in Bollywood with hits like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, and Sonu Ki Titu Ki Sweety, continues to captivate audiences with his portrayal of Murlikant Petkar. Despite its niche sports genre, Chandu Champion is proving to be a crowd-puller, resonating well with viewers and critics alike.

As Chandu Champion marches ahead with robust box office collections and positive word-of-mouth, it remains to be seen how the film will fare in the coming weeks against upcoming releases. For now, Kartik Aaryan and the team have every reason to celebrate their triumph.

The much-anticipated Bollywood film “Yodha,” featuring Sidharth Malhotra, Raashii Khanna, Disha Patani, Ronit Roy, and Tanuj Virwani in lead roles, has opened to a mixed response from audiences and critics alike. Directed by Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha, the movie is a collaborative effort between Amazon MGM Studios, Dharma Productions, and Mentor Disciple Entertainment.

Released on March 15, “Yodha” has generated a flurry of reactions from moviegoers, ranging from glowing praise to disappointment.

Positive Reviews:

Several viewers lauded the film’s action scenes, suspenseful plot, and stellar performances, particularly by lead actor Sidharth Malhotra. One user described the movie as “outstanding” and praised Malhotra’s acting prowess. Another hailed “Yodha” as one of the top patriotic films of recent times, drawing comparisons to Malhotra’s previous acclaimed performance in “Shershaah.” Additionally, many commended the film for its captivating interval block, suspense, climax, and unexpected twists, highlighting Malhotra’s terrific performance and brilliant direction.

Critical Feedback:

However, not all viewers were equally impressed. Some labeled the movie as average, citing it as a typical Bollywood film with nothing exceptional to offer. Another reviewer expressed disappointment, deeming “Yodha” a bad choice due to its weak storyline and average acting. Particularly, one viewer criticized the film’s climax, suggesting that the resolution of conflicts by “becoming friends” did not resonate well within the context of the movie’s theme.

Box Office Performance:

Despite the mixed reviews, “Yodha” saw a decent booking nationwide. According to reports, the film secured ₹1.33 crore in bookings across 7,097 screens nationwide. Maharashtra led the bookings with ₹45.33 lakh, followed by Delhi with ₹30.46 lakh. Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat also reported significant bookings. Notably, the film was reportedly made with a budget of ₹55 crore.

As audiences continue to flock to theaters to experience “Yodha” firsthand, the film’s box office performance and audience reception will be closely monitored in the coming days.

1. A Missed Opportunity for Cinematic Brilliance

In the highly-anticipated film “Sam Bahadur,” director Meghna Gulzar aims to bring the legendary Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw to life, with Vicky Kaushal in the lead role. However, despite the promising elements, the movie falls short of delivering the narrative fireworks and depth needed to elevate it beyond a straightforward retelling.

2. Kaushal’s Charisma Rescues the Character

While the overall impact of the film may miss the mark, Vicky Kaushal’s portrayal of Sam Manekshaw stands out as a commendable performance. In a year where Kaushal faced underwhelming roles, “Sam Bahadur” allowed him to showcase his magic, reminiscent of his outstanding performances in films like “Sardar Udham” and “Raazi.”

3. Emotional Depth Through Supporting Characters

Sanya Malhotra, portraying Sam’s wife Silloo Bode, adds emotional depth to the narrative, complementing Kaushal’s maverick energy with a compelling performance. However, Fatima Sana Shaikh’s portrayal of Indira Gandhi falls short, with casting choices contributing to the unsteady depiction.

4. Musical Missteps and Cinematic Struggles

The film’s musical score, surprising given the talent of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, is criticized as loud, distracting, and unmelodious. Despite effective use of archival footage, the movie grapples with passive linearity and staccato time leaps.

5. Moments of Sweetness Amidst Disjointed Narratives

“Sam Bahadur” finds moments of sweetness and engagement in individual segments depicting Manekshaw’s life, expertly executed by cinematographer Jay I Patel. However, the film’s attempts to weave these segments together often result in a disjointed feel, requiring some slack due to its largely sanguine tone.

6. A Standout Performance in Need of Deeper Exploration

While Vicky Kaushal’s performance remains a standout, “Sam Bahadur” leaves audiences yearning for more cinematic brilliance and a deeper exploration of its central character. Despite its strengths, the film falls short of reaching the heights set by Gulzar’s previous successes.
