In a strategic push to solidify India’s position in the global technology arena, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-profile roundtable with leading technology CEOs in New York, spotlighting innovation, collaboration, and India’s expanding tech landscape. Held at the prestigious Lotte New York Palace Hotel and hosted by the MIT School of Engineering, the roundtable featured prominent figures from the worlds of artificial intelligence, quantum computing, semiconductors, and biotechnology.

CEOs in attendance included Sundar Pichai (Google), Jensen Huang (Nvidia), and Shantanu Narayen (Adobe), among others. The roundtable was part of PM Modi’s three-day visit to the United States, with its second leg in New York, and aimed to deepen ties between India and global tech giants. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi expressed his optimism, saying, “Had a fruitful roundtable with tech CEOs in New York, discussing aspects relating to technology, innovation, and more. Also highlighted the strides made by India in this field. I am glad to see immense optimism towards India.”

Focus on Cutting-Edge Technologies

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted that the discussion revolved around critical sectors such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), quantum computing, biotechnology, and semiconductor technologies. These rapidly evolving fields are poised to shape the future of global innovation, and the meeting provided an opportunity for the tech leaders to explore how they could contribute to the well-being of people worldwide, including in India.

PM Modi reiterated India’s commitment to ‘AI for All’, emphasizing the nation’s focus on the ethical and responsible use of AI. He encouraged global tech companies to harness AI’s potential in creating solutions for development challenges, thereby revolutionizing the global economy and human progress. Additionally, the Prime Minister assured the CEOs that India is committed to protecting intellectual property and fostering an environment that encourages technology-led innovation.

India: The Emerging Tech Powerhouse

The conversation also shifted towards India’s rapidly growing startup ecosystem, which has become a hub of technological innovation. With an eye on the future, PM Modi highlighted India’s potential to become the third-largest economy globally, urging American companies to capitalize on the country’s growth trajectory. He painted India as a fertile ground for technological collaboration, pointing out that the country’s startups are driving innovation and could serve as a bridge for American tech giants to enter the Indian market.

Strengthening U.S.-India Tech Partnerships

MIT Professor Anantha Chandrakasan, who chaired the session, echoed the Prime Minister’s sentiments, reaffirming MIT’s dedication to using technology for global good. He expressed optimism about the expanding collaboration between India and the United States in critical tech sectors. The meeting concluded with a shared vision for the future—one in which India and the world’s leading tech companies work hand-in-hand to solve the most pressing global challenges through technological innovation.

The roundtable marked another step forward in PM Modi’s efforts to position India as a leader in the global technology space, ensuring that the country not only keeps pace with but also drives the next wave of technological revolutions.

Google has issued a formal apology to the Indian government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over misleading and unreliable responses generated by its AI platform, Gemini. The controversy emerged when Gemini was criticized for providing unsubstantiated information about Prime Minister Modi, raising concerns about the accuracy and bias within AI-generated content.

The Minister of State for IT & Electronics, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, disclosed that the Indian government had sought an explanation from Google regarding the discrepancies observed in Gemini’s outputs. In response, Google acknowledged the issues with Gemini, admitting the platform’s unreliability and extending an apology to Prime Minister Modi and the Indian authorities. This incident unfolds amid India’s tightened scrutiny over AI platforms, with the government indicating plans to introduce permits for AI operations within the country. Chandrasekhar stressed the importance of AI platforms adhering to the respect and legality due to Indian consumers, hinting at the legal consequences under IT and criminal laws for spreading false information.

Further complicating matters for Google, Gemini was accused of displaying racial bias and historical inaccuracies. A particularly contentious issue arose when the AI chatbot reportedly declined to generate images of white individuals and inaccurately portrayed historical white figures as people of color. These allegations have led to widespread criticism and calls for Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s resignation.

In the wake of the backlash, Google took immediate action to disable Gemini’s human image generation feature. Sundar Pichai described the error as “completely unacceptable” and committed to addressing the issues raised. Despite Google’s efforts to mitigate the situation, calls for Pichai’s resignation have intensified. Analysts Ben Thompson and Mark Shmulik have voiced their opinion on the necessity for leadership changes at Google, suggesting that overcoming these challenges may require new management direction, potentially implicating CEO Sundar Pichai himself.

Thompson highlighted the need for a transformative change within Google, advocating for a leadership overhaul to rectify past mistakes. Similarly, Shmulik questioned the current management team’s capability to steer Google through these tumultuous waters. As Google pledges to refine and improve its AI technologies, the company faces a critical juncture. The controversy underscores the broader challenges facing AI development, including ensuring accuracy, fairness, and the ethical use of technology in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

New Delhi: In a groundbreaking move, the Modi government is set to welcome 25 private sector specialists into crucial government roles, marking a significant stride towards enhancing governance efficiency. This initiative, part of the government’s ongoing efforts to streamline administration and bolster policy-making, was announced today by officials in the national capital.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has green-lighted the induction of three joint secretaries and 22 directors/deputy secretaries across various central government departments. Traditionally, these influential positions have been occupied by career bureaucrats from all-India services, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Forest Service (IFoS), among other Group A services.

This latest wave of appointments is facilitated through the lateral entry mode, a strategy designed to infuse the government with fresh talent and perspectives by recruiting specialists from the private sector directly into key administrative roles. Initiated in 2018, the lateral entry scheme targets levels critical to policy formulation and implementation, aiming to leverage the unique insights and expertise that seasoned professionals from outside the traditional civil service can offer.

Since its inception, the lateral entry scheme has sought to enrich the government’s administrative capabilities by opening its doors to domain experts. The Personnel Ministry first sought applications for 10 joint secretary-level positions in June 2018, a pioneering step executed via the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Following this, in October 2021, the UPSC recommended 31 candidates for various roles, signaling a continued commitment to this innovative approach to governance.

To date, 38 private sector specialists have been incorporated into the government through this scheme, with 33 currently active in their respective roles, including eight joint secretaries, 16 directors, and nine deputy secretaries. This initiative not only represents a paradigm shift in the recruitment policy but also underscores the government’s dedication to adopting best practices from the private sector to enhance decision-making and policy effectiveness.

The lateral entry scheme emphasizes the government’s openness to diverse professional backgrounds, aiming to attract individuals with specialized knowledge and experience that align with the government’s strategic objectives. By doing so, it seeks to create a more dynamic, responsive, and efficient administrative framework capable of addressing the complex challenges of modern governance.

As these 25 new specialists prepare to assume their roles, the government’s message is clear: the infusion of external talent is not just an experiment but a long-term strategy to enrich India’s administrative services with fresh ideas, innovative approaches, and a renewed focus on results-driven governance.

New Delhi: In a profound revelation, veteran Bharatiya Janata Party leader L.K. Advani has declared that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the chosen one by Lord Ram to build the long-awaited Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Speaking to Hindi magazine Rashtra Dharma, Advani reflected on the pivotal “Ram Rath Yatra” of 1990, describing it as a transformative event that shaped his political journey.

Advani, often hailed as the charioteer of the Rath Yatra, expressed that the faith in Lord Ram, with which the journey began, unexpectedly evolved into a nationwide movement. Recalling the historic event, he highlighted the divine connection, stating, “Lord Ram himself had chosen Mr. Modi, his devoted disciple, to build his Temple in Ayodhya.”

During the yatra, Prime Minister Modi served as Advani’s assistant, a role that was integral to the political landscape yet didn’t make Modi a household name at the time. Advani, now 96 years old, emphasized that destiny had signaled the eventual construction of a grand temple in Ayodhya during the Rath Yatra, and he believes “now it’s only a matter of time.”

In the article titled “Ram Mandir Nirman, Ek Divya Swapna Ki Purti” (The Construction of Ram Temple: Fulfillment of a Divine Dream), Advani paid tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, expressing that Vajpayee’s absence is felt deeply at this momentous juncture.

Advani also shared his vision for the upcoming consecration ceremony, where PM Modi is expected to consecrate the Ram Lalla idol. He believes that when this happens, the Prime Minister will represent every citizen of India, expressing a hope that the Ram Temple inspires all Indians to embody the qualities of Lord Ram.

The article is set to be published in the January 16 edition of Rashtra Dharma, with copies to be distributed to attendees of the consecration ceremony in Ayodhya. While there is speculation about Advani’s attendance, no official confirmation has been provided by his close associates at this point.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a week-long program called ‘Sankalp Saptaah’ aimed at improving the lives of people in aspirational blocks across India. The program focuses on efficient resource utilization, convergence, and public participation for grassroots development.

During the launch at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the significance of optimizing resources, stating that budgets alone cannot drive change, and efficient use of existing resources is equally crucial.

‘Sankalp Saptaah’ aligns with the Aspirational Blocks Programme (ABP) initiated by the Prime Minister in January. It aims to enhance governance at the block level, ultimately improving citizens’ quality of life.

To support the ABP’s successful implementation and develop robust strategies, ‘chintan shivirs’ (reflection workshops) were conducted at village and block levels nationwide. ‘Sankalp Saptaah’ represents the culmination of these deliberations and will be observed in all 500 aspirational blocks.

Throughout ‘Sankalp Saptaah,’ each day from October 3 to October 9 focuses on a specific development theme that all aspirational blocks will work on. These themes include ‘Sampoorna Swasthya’ (comprehensive health), ‘Suposhit Pariwaar’ (well-nourished families), ‘Swachhta’ (cleanliness), ‘Krishi’ (agriculture), ‘Shiksha’ (education), and ‘Samridhi Diwas’ (prosperity day).

The program’s final day, October 9, will celebrate the week’s achievements and efforts during ‘Sankalp Saptaah – Samavesh Samaroh.’ The inaugural event at Bharat Mandapam witnessed the participation of around 3,000 panchayat and block-level representatives and approximately two lakh people, including block and panchayat functionaries, farmers, and individuals from various backgrounds, who joined virtually.

This landmark decision follows India’s proposal for the African Union to be granted permanent membership within the G20, aligning with the principle of “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas,” emphasizing inclusivity and development for all.
Honourable Prime Minister Modi, in his address during the first session titled ‘One Earth,’ highlighted India’s G20 presidency as a symbol of comprehensiveness, resonating not only within the nation but globally. He emphasized that this G20 represents the people’s collective objectives, with millions of Indians actively engaged in the process.
The Prime Minister called upon the world to join forces in transforming the prevailing global trust deficit into one of trust and reliance. He emphasized the need for collective action in addressing critical issues such as food and fuel management, terrorism, cybersecurity, health, energy, and water security. In the wake of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) expanding its membership, concerns are growing about the future trajectory and purpose of this international platform. Recent events, such as the contrasting approaches of Russia and India, highlight the divergent paths within BRICS.

BRICS originated in the early 2000s as an attempt to understand global economic transformations. However, it truly gained momentum in 2009 when leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, and China came together for the first BRIC Summit. Their joint statement emphasized support for multilateral rule-making, a multipolar world order, and democratic decision-making in international financial institutions.

Over the years, BRICS aimed to gain a stronger voice in the international financial system, leading to the establishment of the New Development Bank (NDB) in 2013. The NDB was seen both as a challenger to established institutions like the IMF and as a means to democratize global governance.

Despite these initiatives, BRICS has faced challenges, especially as the global balance of power shifts. Russia was once crucial in managing China’s growing economic dominance within the group, but today, fault lines within BRICS are becoming more pronounced. Russia and China are pushing for a more overtly geopolitical agenda, while India and China find it increasingly difficult to find common ground.

The recent expansion of BRICS, which includes Saudi Arabia, Iran, the UAE, Ethiopia, Egypt, and Argentina, raises questions about the group’s purpose. India’s presence is seen as a counterbalance to prevent BRICS-Plus from becoming an anti-Western platform. However, the lack of a clear direction has led some to question the authenticity and purpose of the group.

As BRICS faces these challenges and changes, it must redefine its role and purpose to remain relevant on the global stage.
