Chandrayaan- 3 Mission highlights The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) pulled off the coming Lunar bound orbit manoeuvre today, laying the spacecraft in 174 km x 1437 km orbit.

Before it lands on the moon, Chandrayaan- 3 will perform multiplede-orbiting manoeuvres to bring it closer to the lunar surface so that lander Vikram can land there.

According to Isro chief S Somanath, a lander propulsion module separation exercise will be taken up after that, soon after lander” deboost”, a process that slows down the craft. It’ll be followed by landing on lunar surface on August 23, he explained.

This campaign will provide students and teachers with opportunities to learn about the pressing environmental issues facing our world and to involve in meaningful activities that can make a great difference. This campaign is currently implementing programs which are designed to speed up the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in various ways, including addressing interlink ages between different goals. Like, increasing awareness and education can contribute to the achievement of multiple goals, such as SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), by promoting knowledge-sharing, capacity-building, and stakeholder engagement.

If approved, these restrictions would expand on existing measures implemented in recent years as part of Beijing’s efforts to reduce screen time among children and minimize exposure to “undesirable information”. Under the draft rules, children and teen-agers using devices in slight mode would have online applications automatically close when their respective time limits are reached.

They would also be provided with “age-based content”. The proposed regulations stipulate that individuals under 18 would be unable to access their screens between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. while using the minor mode. Children under eight would be limited to 40 minutes of phone usage per day, while those between eight and 16 would have an hour of screen time. Teenagers aged 16 to 18 would be allowed a maximum of two hours. Additionally, all age groups would receive reminders to take breaks after using their devices for more than 30 minutes.

The proposal also calls for mobile internet service providers to actively create content that promotes “core socialist values” and fosters a sense of national community. However, parents would have the ability to override time restrictions, and certain educational and emergency services would be exempt from the limits. The potential effectiveness of these measures may depend on parental support and compliance, as children sometimes use their parents’ accounts to access online content. The regulations could assist parents in supervising their children’s screen time and setting limits.

The introduction of these new measures may pose challenges for tech companies, as they would be responsible for enforcing the regulations. The announcement of the proposed rules led to a decline in the Hong Kong-listed shares of several major Chinese internet firms. The Chinese government’s efforts to limit screen time among minors align with previous actions, such as restricting online gaming for individuals under 18 and implementing parental control measures. Platforms like Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok) and Kuaishou have already introduced features to limit screen time for young users.

Overall, China’s proposal to limit minors to two hours of phone usage per day reflects its commitment to addressing internet addiction and promoting healthier online habits among young people.

In 1973, the Government of India organised Project Tiger, an ambitious, holistic conservation design, aimed at securing the nation’s tiger population and conserving biodiversity. July 2023 is on track to be the hottest month ever recorded on Earth, according to U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres, citing data from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service.

The global average temperature for July 2023 was 1.54 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial average, making it the highest monthly average temperature on record, surpassing the previous record set in July 2019.

The record-breaking temperatures are a “stark reminder” of the urgent need to take action on climate change, said Guterres. He called on countries to “step up their efforts” to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to mitigate the consequences of climate change, which are already being felt around the world.

Heatwaves, droughts, floods, and wildfires are becoming more frequent and intense, causing widespread damage and displacement, and putting people’s lives at risk.

Guterres emphasized that “we are at a crossroads.” We can either continue on our current path, which will lead to even more extreme weather events and rising sea levels, or we can take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and avert the worst effects of climate change.

The WMO predicts that the annual average near-surface global temperature between 2023 and 2027 will be more than 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels for at least one year, with a 98% likelihood that at least one of the next five years, and the five-year period as a whole, will be the warmest on record..

The Prime Minister welcomed the dignitaries to Chennai and highlighted the city’s rich culture and history. He also encouraged them to visit Mamallapuram, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its inspiring stone carvings and natural beauty.

He urged enhanced action on commitments under the UN Climate Convention and the Paris Agreement to help fulfill the developmental aspirations of the Global South in a climate-friendly way.

Shri Modi expressed pride in India’s ambitious ‘Nationally Determined Contributions’ and its achievements in renewable energy. He mentioned that India has achieved its installed electric capacity from non-fossil fuel sources ahead of target and set a new goal of attaining ‘Net Zero’ by 2070. The Prime Minister highlighted India’s collaborations with international alliances such as the International Solar Alliance, CDRI, and the Leadership Group for Industry Transition.

The Prime Minister emphasized India’s efforts in biodiversity conservation, restoration, and enrichment. He mentioned initiatives like the Gandhinagar Implementation Roadmap and Platform for restoring priority landscapes impacted by forest fires and mining. He also highlighted the recently launched International Big Cat Alliance and credited the success of Project Tiger in increasing India’s tiger population. The Prime Minister mentioned ongoing work on Project Lion and Project Dolphin.

Shri Modi highlighted India’s initiatives driven by people’s participation. He mentioned the Mission Amrit Sarovar water conservation initiative, which has developed over 63,000 water bodies in just one year through community participation and technology. He also mentioned the Catch the Rain campaign, which has led to the construction of over 280,000 water harvesting structures. The Prime Minister discussed the success of community participation in the Namami Gange Mission, resulting in the reappearance of the Gangetic Dolphin in many parts of the river. He also mentioned India’s large network of Ramsar sites for wetland conservation.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of responsible use and management of oceanic resources, particularly for Small Island States. He highlighted that oceans are not only crucial economic resources but also support the livelihoods of billions of people worldwide and are home to extensive biodiversity.
