In a Great collaboration, Reliance Industries, led by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, and US technology giant NVIDIA have joined forces to establish advanced AI supercomputing infrastructure in India. This strategic partnership aims to develop a computing environment more powerful than any supercomputer currently operating in the country, significantly enhancing India’s AI capabilities.
The announcement follows a meeting between NVIDIA’s founder and CEO, Jensen Huang, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, underscoring the significance of this venture.
NVIDIA, which initiated operations in India in 2004 and has four engineering development centers across the country, is set to contribute its cutting-edge technology, including the GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip and DGX Cloud, an AI supercomputing cloud service. The GH200 superchip represents a revolutionary leap in computing architecture, offering exceptional performance and massive memory bandwidth.
One of the primary objectives of this collaboration is to develop a large language model tailored to India’s diverse languages and designed for generative AI applications. This AI infrastructure will serve as the cornerstone for Reliance Jio Infocomm, Reliance Industries’ telecommunications arm, which aims to harness the power of AI to create applications and services for its 450 million Jio customers.
The applications of AI in India are far-reaching, from enabling rural farmers to access weather information and crop prices in their local languages to providing expert medical diagnoses through scalable AI solutions. Additionally, AI can play a pivotal role in predicting and managing cyclonic storms using decades of atmospheric data.
This AI infrastructure will be hosted in AI-ready computing data centers that will eventually expand to a capacity of 2,000 MW. Jio will manage the execution and implementation, drawing on its extensive experience in mobile telephony, SG spectrum, fiber networks, and more.
Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “India has scale, data, and talent. With the most advanced AI computing infrastructure, Reliance can build its own large language models that power generative AI applications made in India, for the people of India.”
Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, emphasized the transformative potential of this venture, saying, “As India advances from a country of data proliferation to creating technology infrastructure for widespread and accelerated growth, computing and technology super centers like the one we envisage with NVIDIA will provide the catalytic growth just like Jio did to our nation’s digital march.”
Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm, added, “Together, we will develop a state-of-the-art AI infrastructure that is secure, sustainable, and deeply relevant across India, accelerating the nation’s journey towards becoming an AI powerhouse.”
This collaboration represents a significant milestone in India’s technological landscape, as it endeavors to harness the full potential of artificial intelligence to drive innovation, growth, and inclusivity across various sectors of the economy.

Sriharikota, India – September 2, 2023

In a historic milestone for Indian space exploration, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched its first-ever solar observatory mission, Aditya-L1, today from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The mission aims to provide invaluable insights into the Sun’s behavior and its impact on Earth.

Key Highlights of the Aditya-L1 Mission:

Aditya-L1, which means “the Sun” in Sanskrit, is India’s pioneering space-based observatory designed to study the outer atmosphere of our closest star, the Sun. The spacecraft will be placed in a halo orbit around the Lagrange point 1 (L1) of the Sun-Earth system, located approximately 1.5 million kilometers from Earth. This strategic positioning will enable Aditya-L1 to provide a continuous and unobstructed view of the Sun, offering real-time data on solar activities and their effects on our planet and other celestial bodies.

Scientific Objectives of the Aditya-L1 Mission:

Solar Atmospheric Dynamics: The mission aims to study the dynamics of the solar upper atmosphere, specifically the chromosphere and corona, shedding light on their behavior and fluctuations.

Heating Mechanisms: Aditya-L1 will investigate the mechanisms behind the heating of the chromosphere and corona, the physics of partially ionized plasma, and the initiation of coronal mass ejections and solar flares.

In-situ Particle and Plasma Environment: The mission will provide crucial data on particle dynamics originating from the Sun, enhancing our understanding of the solar wind and its composition.

Corona Diagnostics: Aditya-L1 will measure the temperature, velocity, and density of the coronal plasma and loops, unraveling the mysteries of the Sun’s outermost layer.

Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs): The mission will delve into the development, dynamics, and origin of coronal mass ejections, critical for space weather predictions.

Magnetic Field Studies: Aditya-L1 will explore the magnetic field topology and measurements in the solar corona, contributing to our knowledge of solar magnetism.

Space Weather Drivers: The mission will identify the origins, compositions, and dynamics of solar wind, a key driver of space weather that can impact satellite communications, navigation systems, and power grids on Earth.

A Pioneering Launch:

Aditya-L1’s launch is distinct from typical PSLV missions, as it is expected to separate from the rocket 63 minutes after liftoff, making it one of the longest PSLV missions to date. Unlike previous missions, which involved multiple satellites and orbits, Aditya-L1’s focus is solely on studying the Sun and its surrounding environment.

A Vision for the Future:

With Aditya-L1, India joins a select group of nations actively engaged in solar research, reaffirming its commitment to advancing space exploration and understanding our cosmic neighborhood. The successful launch of this mission demonstrates India’s capabilities in space science and technology and marks a significant step toward harnessing space for the benefit of all.

Aditya-L1 promises to unravel the mysteries of our Sun and provide vital information for space weather forecasting, which has profound implications for Earth’s technological infrastructure and space exploration endeavors. India’s foray into solar research is a testament to its dedication to scientific progress and its vision for a space-faring future.

As Aditya-L1 embarks on its 125-day voyage to the Sun, the world eagerly awaits the groundbreaking discoveries and insights it will bring to humanity’s understanding of our solar system’s central star.

New Delhi: In a significant development, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has achieved deemed university status, as announced by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on the occasion of the Council’s 63rd foundation day. This recognition grants NCERT the authority to confer its own graduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degrees, marking a substantial expansion of its influence in India’s educational sphere.

“NCERT has been designated as a deemed-to-be-university. It has made a substantial impact on research, actively influencing school education, teacher training, and adult literacy. With NCERT’s transition into a research university, it will open doors for global collaborations,” stated Pradhan.

As the leading organization for school education in India, NCERT is engaged in various activities and programs, including educational research, curriculum development, and the creation of educational materials.

Pradhan also proposed the integration of Bal Bhavans and Bal Vatikas (child-centric learning centers) into NCERT, envisioning a comprehensive educational approach designed to provide holistic education to children.

The deemed-to-be-university status awarded to NCERT falls under the ‘de novo’ category. This designation allows NCERT to apply to the University Grants Commission (UGC) for the establishment of a new institution as a deemed university, specializing in the study and research of emerging areas of knowledge not currently offered by existing institutions. In addition to granting degrees to teachers, NCERT will have the autonomy to determine the courses it wishes to offer.

Furthermore, Pradhan proposed the establishment of augmented reality, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence labs at NCERT’s regional centers.

This development is poised to further elevate NCERT’s role in shaping India’s educational landscape by strengthening its research capabilities and expanding its academic offerings.
